It's a welcome news to the boxing community that Floyd Mayweather Jr. just announced his intention to fight Victor Ortiz on September 17. After 13 months of vacation, Floyd finally find some urge to get inside the ring once again.
Mayweather vs. Ortiz is a good fight. Ortiz is a hungry, young champion coming from the biggest win of his 33 fight boxing career defeating former welterweight champion Andre Berto last April. Mayweather though is expected to crush the young lion in Ortiz and will be installed as the heavy pre-fight favorite in this match-up.
One factor that might affect Mayweather's preparation for this September fight is the numerous lawsuits he's now facing.
- charges of domestic violence and felony counts of grand larceny, coercion and robbery for allegedly beating his former girlfriend and stealing her cell phone
- defamation lawsuit that alleges Mayweather acted with malice by accusing Pacquiao of using performance-enhancing drugs
- misdemeanor case from allegations that Mayweather poked a security guard
- lawsuit alleges Mayweather bodyguard assaulted a bouncer
Court hearings/trials for these lawsuits already been scheduled. There's even one trial to be held on September 1, barely two weeks before the planned Ortiz fight. These hearings/trials might affect Mayweather's fight preparation. How big is the distraction, we won't know exactly.
