24 Rounds of Pacquiao vs Marquez: The Judges Scorecard

24 Rounds of Pacquiao vs Marquez: The Judges' Scorecard

Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez fought two hotly contested 12-rounds fights. A third fight is now more or less official and scheduled this coming 12th of November this year.

Let's take a look on how the judges saw the two fights between these two legendary boxers.

The first fight was a judges' nightmare. All 3 judges had totally different final score for the fight. One judge had Pacquiao winning by 5 points, one had Marquez winning also by 5 points and the third judge having it a draw but admitted that he made an erroneous score for round 1. The judges were in agreement (having the same score) only in 5 out of the 12 rounds. Pacquiao started fast and leading in the scorecards up to round 5 where Marquez was able to even the score in one judge. Pacquiao was still leading in 2 judges scorecards throughout the remainder of the fight. After the 11th round, Pacquiao leading 6 points and 1 point in 2 judges scorecard. Technically, Marquez needs to knockdown or to knockout Pacquiao in the last round in order to win. It didn't happened and the first fight resulted to a disputed draw.

The second fight was at least a clearer verdict from the point of view of the judges. They were in agreement in 9 out of 12 rounds. Pacquiao again started fast and leading the scorecards up to round 7 where Marquez even the score in one judge scorecard. Pacquiao still leading in 2 judges scorecards most of the fight and after the 11th, he's still enjoying a 2 point lead in one judge and 1 point edge in another judge. Same scenario as the first fight, Marquez needs a knockdown or knockout in the 12th and final round in order to win. Pacquiao won via split decision in the second fight.
